Back in August of 2020 the domain name Fanbase.com closed at auction on GoDaddy at $151,000.
The company that bought the domain name was looking to create an open platform for creators who wanted to produce and sell digital content.
Last week they sent out an email that it was time to say goodbye.
From the email:
We’re proud of the product we built, but even more thankful for the Creator Economy that helped it grow. Thanks to community feedback, Fanbase was able to evolve into what it is today. For that, we are very grateful.
Unfortunately, Fanbase’s story ends here. We could not reach the critical mass of creative people to keep the platform running economically.
As of today, it is no longer possible to register on Fanbase and as of July 31, 2022, Fanbase will no longer be accessible in its usual form. Therefore, download all files and chat histories before July 31, 2022.
Of course, the earnings from July will still be paid out in August, as long as they are above the minimum payout limit.
We would like to thank the Fanbase team and everyone who has contributed to the Fanbase community. We have a new idea for Fanbase and look forward to meeting again. On Fanbase or somewhere else in the world.
With best regards
Stefan and Fabian
It does look like they will put the domain name to use again with another idea.
Their website is really professional looking and it seems like their product offers a lot of features, so I wonder why they didn’t try to sell the business (like on Flippa) instead of shutting down?
Your blog is so great
