It’s always nice to read about a hand reg selling for great money coupled with a short hold time. Hunter Graves posted on Twitter that he sold VehicleGPT.com for $8,000. For those not familiar GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It’s gained popularity in the mainstream thanks to ChatGPT.
There have been articles published like this one at Slator.com, OpenAi the company behind ChatGPT, is hunting down those using GPT in their domain name or product name.

Therefore, it is unlikely that GPT can be trademarked as it does not function as a brand name or a product identifier. However, as a leading AI research organization, OpenAI may be able to use its reputation to establish the term “GPT” as a brand name or a product identifier for its specific GPT-based language models, such as GPT-2 or GPT-3.
However, even if the “GPT” trademark is successfully accepted by the USPTO examiner, it will be moved to the opposition period, where other trademark owners will have 30 days to argue why the agency should deny the “GPT” trademark. Currently, the USPTO database lists over 50 trademarks including the word “GPT”, a significant portion of which are registered for class 42: Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software using artificial intelligence for image, audio, and text generation.
Every domain was originally hand registered. But it’s always nice to see how ever-evolving terminology creates new opportunities every day.
Even if 1/100 of his hand reg’d names turn out to be worthless, …he’s still way ahead of the game.
You do need to be selective and avoid TM’d words, though.
